The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia National Guard Health Affairs Goes Live with Misys CPR Electronic Patient Record System
RALEIGH, N.C. & BURGESS HILL, United Kingdom --(Business Wire)-- Oct. 29, 2004 -- The NGHA EPR Project is One of the Largest Clinical System Implementations in the Middle East
Misys Healthcare Systems is pleased to announce today that the Saudi Arabia National Guard Health Affairs (NGHA) went live with Misys CPR(TM) electronic patient record (EPR) clinical information system on September 29. NGHA is a multi-site healthcare facility that includes the King Fahad National Guard Hospital, a 691-bed facility part of the King Abdulaziz Medical City in Riyadh. King Fahad Hospital boasts the largest trauma centre in the gulf region, a major cardiac care centre, a leading ambulatory care centre and four large primary care clinics. NGHA also has hospitals and primary care centres in Al Khobar in the Eastern Province and Jeddah in the Western Province. Encompassing such an extensive network of sites, this project represents one of the largest clinical information management system implementations in the Middle East.
According to Dr. Abdullah Al Rabeeah, Chief Executive Officer, National Guard Health Affairs, Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia: "In continuation of NGHA's success in promoting and elevating the quality of healthcare within the Kingdom, we recognized the need to implement an advanced clinical information management system that would support all areas of our organization. Misys CPR, with its support for Physicians, Nursing, Medical Imaging, Critical Care Areas, Pharmacy and Laboratory, will enable NGHA to lead as a model and benchmark for healthcare organizations in the Kingdom, as well as position the organization amongst the leaders within the international healthcare industry. This is a new project for NGHA, and a relatively new project in the international healthcare industry, as evidenced by literature verifying that less than 10 percent of healthcare organizations worldwide have implemented such systems. The dedicated team of experts from Misys has worked closely with us to understand our clinical workflows and they have built a system that meets our unique requirements as a large, complex, multi-lingual organization. Misys' commitment and our shared vision of advancing the quality of patient care in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia have allowed us to achieve this significant milestone."
In the first phase of the project, NGHA has replaced its existing system with a fully automated, enterprise-wide EPR is used by more than 3,500 clinicians and managers across multiple departments in six hospitals. The functions implemented include medical records, patient scheduling, order results management, medical imaging, nursing, patient administration, and an interface to NGHA's existing lab system. Misys Data Warehouse(TM), a powerful, online outcomes measurement tools for critical data analysis to develop the necessary repository of information for outcomes-based clinical decision making, is due to go live next month. Misys CPR's integrated Pharmacy module will activate in December 2004.
"The installation of Misys CPR represents a significant advancement in clinical technology for the Saudi Arabian National Guard Health Affairs," says Dr. Majid Al Tuwaijri, Chief Information Officer for NGHA. "Our ability to manage and analyze large amounts of patient data in order to develop a truly patient-centric healthcare organization has been greatly enhanced by our implementation of Misys CPR. We have been very impressed by the technical robustness of Misys CPR, and we have been pleased with the system's solid performance. Our positive collaborative experience with the dedicated team from Misys and the committed efforts on the part of the extended NGHA/Misys team was essential in making this installation such a success. This excellent relationship served us very well during the go-live, and will be the foundation for a very productive relationship going forward as we seek to share the benefits of our experience throughout the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia."
NGHA's new multi-facility, enterprise-wide EPR system is the result of close vendor-client teamwork and involves extensive input from Misys R&D, client support, development, implementation, and engineering services, both in the U.S. and the U.K. The next phase of the project will see the implementation of Misys' Enhanced Nursing, Emergency Medicine, Clinical Pathways, Misys Media Manager(TM), Enhanced Medical Records (including transcription), and Respiratory Care. Misys CPR's computerised physician order entry (CPOE) functionality has earned recognition from top analysts such as Gartner Group and First Consulting. NGHA plans to extend the system to National Guard facilities in Jeddah and Al Khobar in early 2005.
Duane Lawrence, general manager of Misys Healthcare Systems International, commented: "Misys Healthcare Systems has always been associated with ground-breaking, highly complex clinical information systems, and our global resources enable us to support world-class sites such as NGHA. We are thrilled to be involved in such an ambitious and far-reaching project, and look forward to a long and rewarding partnership. NGHA's implementation is a beacon of progressive technology and together with our other clients in the Middle East such as Dubai's DOHMS and Saudi Aramco, our expertise with complex implementations in the region positions Misys as the leading healthcare IT provider in this fast-growing market."
