Popular Telephony and Logicom Collaborate to Deliver Peer-to-Peer VoIP Solution to the Consumer Market; The First Residential Peer-to-Peer IP Phone for Serverless Communications

NEW YORK --(Business Wire)-- Sept. 28, 2004 -- Popular Telephony, a telecommunications middleware company and inventor of peer-to-peer serverless telephony technology, and Logicom, one of the two largest suppliers of telephone terminals in France, today announced a partnership to develop a feature-rich prototype Peerio-intelligent IP DECT telephone for consumers as well as an IP to PSTN gateway.

Popular Telephony R&D, based in Sophia Antipolis, France, will undertake the development of these prototypes. This initial step will prove the flexibility and adaptability of Peerio to existing technologies. The next step, due to take place in the first quarter of 2005, will introduce an innovative peer-to-peer IP phone for the consumer market.

Logicom's Peerio-enabled IP phone will offer the general public considerable savings on their monthly phone bills by making direct calls over the Internet.

Logicom IP DECT telephones with built-in gateways, powered by Popular Telephony Peerio(TM) serverless telephony middleware, will allow consumers to choose between making calls from their telephones over their existing PSTN carrier or via a broadband IP network (e.g. cable or ADSL) without the need for an additional subscription from an IP telephony service provider.

"Logicom is always looking for innovative products and technologies to remain market leader and to develop new markets, which is why Logicom has chosen Peerio(TM), a sophisticated and ultra-modern serverless telephony technology, as a basis for developing an IP DECT telephone. We are keenly waiting to receive the first delivery of prototypes to begin evaluating this powerful solution which will allow us to position ourselves aggressively on the European residential IP telephony market," said Bernard Bessis, PDG of Logicom.

Peerio(TM), from Popular Telephony, is a progressive, patent-pending IP telephony middleware for embedded devices that was released in July 2004. Peerio implements a serverless and switchless telecommunications system for Peerio powered devices connected to the Internet. Peerio(TM)-intelligent devices automatically network together to operate as a fully functioning telephony system, providing extremely cost-effective and massively scalable networks -- without the need for call controlling servers, softswitches, proxies, gatekeepers or physical PBXs.

These benefits, along with enhanced redundancy, security and IP services, make Popular Telephony's solution a major driver for IP telephony that will improve enterprise networks and rapidly accelerate the market's transition to IP-based voice communications.

"We are delighted to partner with a market leader such as Logicom to pioneer a Peerio-enabled device for the general consumer market. By complying with today's industry standards (SIP, H.323), Peerio(TM) is the ultimate solution for residential telecommunications, shifting the market towards serverless telephony methodology," said Dmitry Goroshevsky, CEO of Popular Telephony.
