(ENP Newswire Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) ENP Newswire - 15 April 2014 Release date- 03042014 - PALAWAN, Philippines - Leading multimedia provider PLDT has now connected tourist-rich Palawan province in western Philippines to the rest of the country and the world via PLDT's Domestic Fiber Optic Network (DFON).

The nearly P1-Billion Palawan DFON project is composed of 620 kilometers state-of-the-art fiber optic inland and submarine cables that now link Palawan to the PLDT network. It is designed to support the ever-increasing demand for reliable telecoms and data services in one of the most popular tourist destinations in the country by using undersea cable links as well as inland transport facilities that run from Puerto Princesa to Taytay in Palawan and San Jose de Buenavista to La Paz, Iloilo City.

'With its huge capacity at 40 Gigabits that can easily be expanded to 100 GBPS, Palawan DFON supports the rapidly growing demand for greater bandwidth by corporate and individual subscribers. It is a testament to the PLDT Group's unmatched efforts in delivering high-quality voice, data, and multimedia services to its customers,' PLDT President and CEO Napoleon L. Nazareno said.

According to Nazareno, Palawan DFON enables PLDT to provide fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) facilities that delivers multimedia services and high-speed internet connectivity from the comfort of people's homes in Palawan.

PLDT Technology Group Head Rolando Pena said the new fiber link allows the activation of the ultra-fast Long Term Evolution (LTE) services for PLDT HOME's wireless broadband services, another first in the country.

He added this should also help improve 3G services in terms of voice call coverage and faster internet browsing for mobile and Smart Bro users, while supporting the deployment of LTE for the subscribers of PLDT mobile subsidiary Smart Communications.

The PLDT Group has been expanding its fiber optic network in the last three years which now stretches to over 78,000 kilometers, far ahead of competition.

Pena noted that, 'With the Palawan DFON, PLDT will be able to provide high capacity bandwidths over long distances while easily accommodating increased capacities. It also improves quality of service, with a system that's much easier to troubleshoot than the microwave radio system before.' 'For PLDT enterprise customers, DFON will facilitate flexibility to grow their businesses in line with revenue opportunities. It will also manage, in a cost effective way, all current traffic requirements and can scale to meet business demands in the future,' he added.

'With its fail safe network, DFON provides more flexible resiliency, including protection of clients, line/trunk, and wavelength. It also has a secured platform and meets global standards,' Pena said (c) 2014 Electronic News Publishing -
