Extension Healthcare Expands its Clinical Team to Further Strengthen its Alarm Management Solutions and User Experience for Caregivers

FORT WAYNE, Ind. --(Business Wire)--

Extension Healthcare announced today that it has expanded its clinical solutions team to ten specialists with extensive backgrounds in nursing and other specialties, who will aid hospitals in implementing a comprehensive alarm management and caregiver communication strategy. Extension's clinical associates will be more involved than ever in helping its customers fashion sound clinical workflows that reduce alarm hazards, improve patient care, and improve staff and patient satisfaction.

"One drawback with many health IT solutions in use today is that they interrupt clinical workflows and introduce more problems than they solve," said Mary Jahrsdoerfer, CNO at Extension Healthcare. "Clinical alerting solutions solve real problems, but lacking a comprehensive strategy when introduced into the communications workflow, they can quickly become a nuisance for nurses and other care team members."

Extension's clinical solutions team reflects over 100 years of clinical experience across various specialties. Throughout their years providing direct patient care, each clinician obtained a vast amount of knowledge of common clinical information systems (EHR, nurse call, bed management, etc.) and medical devices (cardiac monitors, ventilators, pumps, etc.). Further, the clinical solutions team has more than 75 years of combined alarm management and clinical communication experience.

According to Sarah Williams, MBA, RRT and Director of Extension's Clinical Solutions team, "Clinical involvement throughout the vendor selection and deployment process is a key component to ensuring workflows are appropriately designed and that user expectations are met. Even more so, our clinicians are involved early in product development as the voice of the customer." She added, "We know what challenges nurses and other caregivers face every day because we've been in their shoes. Armed with deep experiences in the alarm management field as well, Extension provides an unparalleled user experience with positive results for both patients and those serving them."

Extension Engage™ is the only enterprise alarm management middleware available today that manages alarms from regulated medical devices (such as ventilators and patient monitors), alerts from non-regulated clinical systems (such as the EHR, nurse call, lab and CPOE systems), and offers advanced event response such as patient-centric texting all in a single application.
