"As a national high-end professional think tank and industrial platform for innovation and development, China Academy of Information and Communications Technology (CAICT) is dedicated to researching leading-edge technologies, such as 5G, the Internet of Things, the mobile internet and more," said Madam Liu Duo, Vice President of CAICT. "By strengthening our cooperation with important global ecosystem partners, we hope to drive the continuous development of the mobile communications in a scalable and healthy manner. We are very pleased to partner with the GSMA and the agreement signed today will utilise and complement our respective strengths in key technology areas. Together, we are focused on advancing the information and communications industry."

"We are very please to be building on our collaboration with CAICT to drive the development of new converged mobile services throughout China," said Tom Phillips, Chief Regulatory Officer, GSMA. "China is already the world's largest mobile market, but there are still significant opportunities to extend the power of mobile to the country's citizens, by connecting those that are currently unconnected and by ushering in a new era of digital services. We look forward to working with CAICT on these important initiatives."

Through the partnership, the GSMA and CAICT will jointly undertake a range of industry initiatives to accelerate the development of digital services in China, focusing initially in the areas of machine-to-machine (M2M), mobile internet and 4G all-IP communications services. For instance, as China continues to migrate its networks to 4G technologies, it is essential to ensure the interoperability of new IP communications services on a global basis through GSMA recommended specifications for Voice over LTE (News - Alert) (VoLTE) and Rich Communications Services (RCS). The implementation of standards-based all-IP communications services will provide Chinese users access to voice, data, video and other rich communications whether they are located in China or roaming internationally.
