IP Infusion Adds Virtual SDN Controller Solution to VirNOS Virtual Network Platform

IP Infusion, Inc., a leading provider of intelligent network software for telecom and data communications services, today announced the addition of VirNOS™-C, a virtual SDN controller solution option to its VirNOS operating system based on Network Functions Virtualization (NFV) for carrier and enterprise networks.

IP Infusion's (News - Alert) VirNOS-C NFV-based software platform provides separation of control plane and data plane, and allows for any white box solution to be used without any dependencies on the control plane. With VirNOS-C, network operators can reduce their CapEx and OpEx costs, accelerate time-to-market for new services, increase agility, and deploy new network services faster. Carriers, service providers, data center/cloud operators, enterprise operators can select the VirNOS Virtual Router Solution along with VirNOS-C Virtual SDN Controller solution option.

The VirNOS-C solution supports:

  • Industry standard IPv4 and IPv6 dynamic routing protocols, such as OSPF, BGP, ISIS, and others
  • MPLS related features, such as LDP, BGP labeled Unicast, MPLS VPN and others
  • Dynamic routing/signaling protocols
  • OpenFlow controller functions, converting routing/signaling information obtained from the routing/signaling protocols into OpenFlow 1.3 compliant flows and provisions (such as flows into white boxes)

In traditional service provider networks, the IP/MPLS network and the Transport Network are totally separated physically and managed separately with the different methods. This approach is expensive to deploy and operate, plus the time to introduce new networking services is longer. Since VirNOS-C takes care of the control plane fully separately from the data plane, VirNOS-C can manage and operate any Transport device and white box device by using standard protocols such as OpenFlow and the devices do not need to support any routing or signaling protocols.

"Many customers, such as service providers, have networking devices with an integrated control and data plane which are very expensive to operate. With VirNOS-C, the control and data plane can be separated, and can converge the IP/MPLS network with the Transport network, resulting in significant cost savings and faster deployment of new services," said Kiyo Oishi, CEO and president of IP Infusion.
