WebRTC Conference & Expo Honors Plantronics with a Visionary Award

Plantronics, a company specializing in audio communications for businesses and consumers, was honored with a 'Visionary Award' at WebRTC Conference & EXPO 2012 held at South San Francisco Conference Center by TMC, an integrated media company, Systemwide Media, an integrated marketing company and PKE Consulting, a company that provides strategic consulting at the intersection of computing and networking. The award looks for innovation designed as a framework for third party innovation.

Plantronics delivered a keynote presentation at the inaugural WebRTC Conference and announced the first headset integration with WebRTC at the conference. Seamless integration of Plantronics headsets into a WebRTC call flow was demonstrated by Joe Burton, CTO and SVP of technology, development and strategy, Plantronics and Cary Bran, senior director of Advanced Software Integration at Plantronics.

"Plantronics is on the forefront of unleashing the power of WebRTC," said Rich Tehrani, chief executive officer at TMC. “The company's open APIs allow tight coupling of headset state and application functionality and moreover allow the new wave of WebRTC-based solutions to communicate seamlessly over blue-tooth to Plantronics headsets."

Launched four months ago, the WebRTC Conference and Expo is the event where architects, enablers and users of Web Real-Time Communication (RTC) gather to advance the standards and discover promising emerging applications for WebRTC. The event culminated with six awards being presented.

Phil Edholm of PKE Consulting, Dean Bubley of Disruptive Analysis, Martin Geddes of Martin Geddes Consulting LTD, Carl Ford of Crossfire Media and Blair Pleasant of COMMFusion judged the participants for the awards.

"When we decided to include these demos as part of our program, our expectation was to see lab work, but in truth we saw demonstrations that are either ready for market trials or already implemented. Plantronics clearly stood out and it was an honor to give them this distinction," said Carl Ford, chief executive officer of Crossfire Media and a judge of the demo event.
