Predicting and Preparing for WebRTC

Once more, I must bring your attention to the topic that is WebRTC. Yes, WebRTC, the emerging tool that will let people communicate in real time over any Web browser, continues to draw attention as technology continues marching towards it.

So of course, with all the buzz about it, there are questions and subjects that must be discussed.

Firstly, one must consider why WebRTC is important and how it works. What WebRTC provides is a way to make communications easier for everyone. An Internet connection and a browser are all it will require to connect people over quality video and voice communications, contacting coworkers with a click.

As Erik Linask noted in his article, while video technology has become a major part of communication, it’s no good if it can’t be used to communicate with anyone else due to interoperability issues.

That, however, is something WebRTC can fix.

Furthermore, one must consider how WebRTC will affect jobs. For those who have to communicate with coworkers, clients, and anyone else over long distances, it will be a sweet relief, providing a level of accessibility they’ve never seen before.

For those who don’t have to communicate with anyone, WebRTC won’t mean a thing. But change always has an impact on businesses and jobs, so WebRTC is bound to have a transformative effect as well.

These are just a few of the subjects which must be considered when thinking about WebRTC. But there’s no doubt that the movement will have a huge impact on businesses and communication.

There’s much more to be considered though. While we can only speculate and make educated predictions until it is truly implemented, it’s safe to say we can look forward to all that WebRTC will bring us.
