WebRTC World Week In Review

It was another impressive week of new developments in the field of Web-based real time communications (WebRTC). The new technology is causing an enormous array of new developments to emerge, and with the coming of the weekend, it's a good time to step back and take stock of all these new developments. That's just what our Week In Review coverage is set to do, so settle in and let's take a better look at the week that was!

First, we got a better look at GENBAND's plans for the WebRTC world at large, as it announced plans for a webinar called “WebRTC: How Network Operators Can Monetize the Disruption.” Set to run May 8th at 12pm EST, the webinar will address one of the greatest questions on the minds of network operators: how to profit from the upcoming shift to WebRTC. But that won't be the end of GENBAND's educational endeavors as it also looks to hit the WebRTC World Conference and Expo as a Gold sponsor, complete with a variety of WebRTC solutions for display.

Next, Blue Jeans Network rolled out its new “All You Can Meet” plan. In addition to three other plans, the “All You Can Meet” plan is based on the total number of active users and the overall size of the company. Usage under the plan is unlimited with a flat fee, paid just once a year, and according to Blue Jeans Network, its offerings will work well with a wide variety of other services, including most of the major offerings like Skype and Google Video.

Then we had something rather unusual: a bit of a discussion between our own Rachel Ramsey and Dmitry Dragilev, senior tech evangelist for Fresh Tilled Soil. The conversation ran through the challenges that WebRTC faces, like developers trying to keep up with the constant changes in the overall WebRTC landscape. Frequent updates, new products, and more contribute to an overall landscape of possibilities that are both coming into being and dying off. The conversation also talked about WebRTC's overall future, which offers quite a bit in the way of possibility.

The Visual Communication Industry Group, meanwhile, brought in the next bit of news as its next VCIG-Live event that was set to kick off. Arriving on Thursday, May 16th, at 1om EST, the event will feature panelists from a wide array of concerns, including Compass, Vidyo, and the Kansas Research and Education Network. Moderated by the current chairman of the VCI-Group Advisory Council, the panel — sponsored by Cisco WebEx — will include a wide array of topics and the impact of same on the wider industry.

Finally, a note of good news for some developers in need of a little help with WebRTC, as vLine was set to offer five free consulting and training sessions for developers that were working with WebRTC and vLine systems. Those who landed one of the training sessions would get a visit from vLine personnel, who would sit down with the developers and “do whatever it takes” to get said developers up and running in terms of working with both systems. The potency of such systems combined, meanwhile, has made such an offer very tempting indeed for many developers.

That was the week that was in WebRTC, and our global online community brought back a huge amount of news in the sector. Be sure to join us back here next week for all the latest news in WebRTC, and every weekend for our Week In Review coverage!
