Saypage Intros 'Always On' In-Browser Virtual Meeting Rooms

While many companies have found success in long-distance collaboration through video conferencing, many solutions have a major draw-back: they are only available for the duration of the conference. Employees wishing to continue to collaborate on material they may have started during the conference are forced to take their work elsewhere, losing the momentum of work and ideas already begun.

Video consultations and distance learning solutions provider Saypage recently announced a solution for this problem. Using its enhanced platform, users are now able create an online meeting room that combines live voice and video conferencing, messaging and sharing, with enhanced presenter capabilities and screen layout options.

The enhanced feature combines WebRTC, Adobe Flash and HTML5 (depending on browser or mobile device), offering better sharing and collaboration while providing hosts with more control over events, says the company, which also notes that the addition of WebRTC technology has resulted in a noticeable improvement in audio quality without an increased bandwidth overhead.

According to Saypage, the changes are the result of customer request and provide an alternative to Adobe Connect, as it works in all Web browsers and requires no download of software for hosts or participants.

“An increasing number of customers were starting to ask for Webinar-type facilities,” said Saypage Business Development Director Marek Zwiefka-Sibley, in a statement announcing the enhancements. “Up until recently all Saypage communication was based very much around interactivity and the idea of live, synchronous communication. Whilst that remains at the core, we have now extended Saypage to better cater for asynchronous, off-line communication and the ability to broadcast out to a viewing audience."

Saypage has noted that one of the most challenging aspects of the enhancement was to seamlessly convert regular PowerPoint presentations into HTML5 and make them available in a shared meeting room environment where all participants are in sync with one another regardless of when they join, even keeping them up-to-date if they leave the meeting and rejoin later on.
