Italtel Embraces WebRTC

Italtel is a provider of solutions for next-generation, IP communications services. True to its core, the company is staying on top of the next generation of Internet-based communications solutions with its newest solution catered to WebRTC.

The new solution, Embrace, is a cloud-based Web application server that enables WebRTC services in a TLC network or standalone WebRTC solution integrated in an ICT infrastructure. It enables audio and video calling for up to five participants, features IM, desktop sharing and file sharing, offers an active directory integration and supports both H.264 and VP8, on top of other codecs g.711, g.729 and OPUS.

Embrace joins the company’s Web-based communication products, just one part of its portfolio, which includes session border controllers, media gateways and border gateways, IMS core and applications, access products, centralized routing and policing and network control.

“WebRTC is likely to become one of the most interesting innovations in communication to date. It is making real-time voice and video communications available for anyone using a web browser,” said Stefano Pileri, CEO of Italtel, in a statement. “Our Embrace WebRTC Solution provides the support infrastructure to broaden enterprise unified communication service delivery, while reducing complexity, costs and enhancing enterprise efficiency through easy configuration. Embrace Web Application Server introduces the concept of web convergence in real time communication and becomes the heart of the multi-technology conference environment.”

The Embrace WebRTC gateway is based on Italtel NetMatch-S, a virtualized session border controller designed for enterprises that can manage up to 4000 media sessions. Session border controllers can play a big role in dealing with network-related security issues. SBCs provide interworking between a WebRTC network and a SIP-based network. It provides security between the two, as well as transcoding, protocol translation and codec conversion. In most cases, additional features to support WebRTC to SIP interworking are minimal. Most of the required features are already supported on SBCs, and SBC vendors are well positioned to provide the necessary functions.

“The way we work is changing more and more rapidly: people work remotely using different and multiple mobile devices and organizations need to communicate and collaborate easily, both internally and with customers and partners. Embrace is a state-of-the art technology which really enables organizations to be multimedia ‘friendly,’ leveraging basic services like audio, video, chat, real-time file sharing, and desktop sharing,” added Pileri.

The company will be showcasing Embrace at Mobile World Congress Feb. 24-27 in Barcelona.
