NetSapiens Shows Off WebRTC Features in Miami

NetSapiens demonstrated the WebRTC features of its SNAPSolution hosted PBX platform at the WebRTC Conference and Expo this week.

In an earlier release, CEO Anand Buch said, “We are looking forward to showing the WebRTC community the new features we have planned. Many of the previous WebRTC demonstrations have focused on video conferencing, an application that we unveiled at our User Group Meeting last March. As a change of pace, we have chosen to demonstrate our web phone application. This is something that our service provider community can easily incorporate into their current offerings that are powered by the SNAPsolution.”

The demonstration was held on May 13.

The features allow people to make calls through NetSapiens’ web-based portal without having to install any additional software. They’ll be able to hold video conferences and share screens when they’re formally released. Also, service providers will be able to rebadge this capability to expand their offerings and compete with over-the-top solutions like Skype.

The addition of WebRTC seems like a natural evolution for hosted PBX and unified communications applications. These solutions are already touted for their simplicity, as they require little software installation on the client side.

WebRTC also doesn’t require any additional software, provided a participant is using one of the latest versions of Chrome, Firefox or Opera. Given that Chrome alone is the most popular modern browser, this shouldn’t be a problem, though the requirements for many corporate intranet applications forced many enterprises to hang on to older versions of Internet Explorer long after they should have.

In any case, a web phone application would be useful for applications such as companies holding conferences with people outside an organization, where it’s not a guarantee that they’ll have all the same software that the company does.

NetSapiens was a Platinum Sponsor of the conference in Miami. Other Platinum Sponsors included AT&T, Dialogic, Temasys, Matrix, Sansay and TokBox.
