Matson will oversee the consolidation of information technology systems between the two campuses and lead IT teams which provide support for university and health system infrastructure services.

"Chip and I will work closely to ensure the most pressing challenges of our multi-faceted integration are met while simultaneously managing day-to-day operations in order to continue to deliver the same great service our customers rely on during this transition," said GHSU Vice President of Institutional Effectiveness Beth Brigdon.

Prior to joining ASU in 2000, Matson was Director of Information Systems for the Medical College of Georgia and had held increasingly responsible positions in the organization since 1979.

"IT operations play a critical role in the success of our enterprise," said Charles Enicks, incoming Chief Information Officer for the Georgia Health Sciences enterprise. "Chip's knowledge, combined with extensive experience, will allow for improved efficiencies and continued growth." Matson has held a number of leadership positions within the University System of Georgia, including Chair of the Administrative Committee on Information Technology, the Security Advisory Group and the PeachNet Advisory Board. He serves on the USG Audit Advisory and Emergency Operations Planning Committees, and is a member of the Association for Communications Technology Professionals in Higher Education. Matson is actively involved in local community organizations, including United Way, Masters Table Soup Kitchen, the Community Foundation for the CSRA, Kiwanis Club of Augusta and St. John United Methodist Church. He is a 2008 graduate of Leadership Augusta.

Matson earned a bachelor's degree in political science and an MBA from Augusta State University.
