Docker Names Open Source Veteran Roger Egan as SVP of Sales and Channels

SAN FRANCISCO --(Business Wire)--

Docker, Inc., the commercial entity behind the open source Docker project, today announced that Roger Egan has been named the company's senior vice president of sales and channels. Egan will be responsible for driving Docker's go-to-market strategy and expanding the company's rapidly growing ecosystem.

"During my time at Red Hat (News - Alert), I was able to see what it takes to build a world class open source business, and I see a lot of those elements in place at Docker," said Egan. "I have been amazed at what the company has been able to achieve in such a short period of time. The developer and operations communities' enthusiastic response to Docker has been truly impressive. The company is drastically changing the way we look at building, deploying and scaling applications, and is emerging as the standard for containerization. I couldn't be more pleased to join such a well-respected team and company."

With over 20 years of experience managing hardware, software and services sales across North and Latin America, Egan is a seasoned veteran in the technology industry. Prior to joining Docker, Egan held the position of VP of North America channels alliance and commercial/SMB sales at Red Hat. Egan's portfolio also includes nearly 17 years at IBM (News - Alert), where he ran sales regions both domestically and internationally covering major accounts, the financial vertical and channels, as well as serving as VP of technology and strategy.

With a deep understanding and background in open source technology, Egan will now utilize his skillset in conjunction with Docker, an open source engine that leverages containerization to provide developers with a lightweight, multi-lingual and flexible approach to package, ship and run applications in almost any Linux environment - including bare metal, virtualized, and public or private cloud. The company's recent achievements include bringing eBay, Spotify, Baidu and Yandex (News - Alert) on as users. The company also announced a major collaboration with Red Hat in September of last yar and in December announced the release of Docker 0.7, delivering support for all Linux distributions.

"We are incredibly fortunate to have convinced Roger to join us," said Ben Golub, chief executive officer at Docker. "Roger brings a wealth of sales experience - including direct, indirect, channels, and verticals - with unique insights in open source. His success in building one of the largest open source businesses - largely through indirect partnerships - is exactly what we need to build off the incredible momentum we experienced in 2013."
