ClearPath Networks Embraces Open SDN by Joining OpenDaylight

ClearPath Networks, Inc., which is leveraging Network Functions Virtualization (NFV) and Software Defined Networking (SDN) to enable operators to deliver customized and cost-effective enterprise managed services, announced that it has joined OpenDaylight, a leading SDN open source project.

OpenDaylight was formed in 2013 to develop a flexible and robust framework for adoption by network equipment manufacturers and OEMs alike to realize their SDN controller strategy. In just over two years, the OpenDaylight project has attracted over 300 active contributors, 45 members, and has been adopted by major vendors around the globe.

"We are excited to see ClearPath Networks join the OpenDaylight project," said Neela Jacques, Executive Director, OpenDaylight. "Their expertise in distributed NFV solutions and vE/VCPE for SMB, enterprise, and consumer-based services maps well to our goal of accelerating open SDN and NFV adoption."

SDN enables the policy-based, dynamic networking capabilities operators require in order to tailor their service offerings to diverse enterprise customers. Unleashing network programmability raises the potential of a myriad of value-added services that would otherwise be infeasible.

ClearPath Networks joined the OpenDaylight project as a Silver Member, effective in July. ClearPath's CEO Cliff Young commented, "ClearPath will leverage OpenDaylight to extend its Virtual Services Platform (VSP) to enable more flexible vCPE deployment, and improve agility for new services delivery. With NFV and SDN increasingly converging, we are eager to join the community to accelerate this movement."

ClearPath Networks is also pleased to announce that Marc Cohn, Senior Vice President of Marketing, has been re-elected as the sole representative to the OpenDaylight Board of Directors, representing over 35 Silver Members. Cohn will re-join the Board effective in July, previously elected as the first Silver Member board representative in early 2014.

Neela Jacques commented, "Marc has been a champion for the Silver Members, strong proponent for close cooperation with the SDN and NFV industry groups, and end-user advocate on the Board. Looking ahead, we look forward to expanding Silver member participation and contributions, as we set our sights on strengthening the community and broadening OpenDaylight adoption over the next year."

Marc Cohn stated, "I appreciate the strong support among the Silver members throughout my tenure on the OpenDaylight Board. Silver Membership has grown over 50% over the past year; my renewed focus is on representing the collective interests among our diverse members, improving our collaboration with such groups as the ETSI NFV ISG ONF, and OPNFV, and promoting initiatives to validate end-user requirements and priorities."

At the OpenDaylight Summit Cohn will present: How OpenDaylight Can Enhance Virtualized CPE, which addresses how a programmable and dynamic network infrastructure enhances virtualized services delivery. ClearPath's innovative vCPE platform already alters the economics for deployment of customized services in extremely compact container. SDN helps streamline the operational lifecycle.
