UberConference is First Teleconferencing Service to Offer HD Audio Over WebRTC

It’s the last day of ITEXPO Las Vegas, but the announcements keep coming. UberConference yesterday introduced a significant enhancement to its award-winning teleconferencing service: HD audio. Not only is this a huge leap forward for UberConference itself, but it’s also significant for the industry as the service has become the first to offer high definition audio for calls made over WebRTC on Google Chrome.

Those who have been following UberConference over the last year or so likely saw this coming. After all, the service introduced support for WebRTC almost as soon as Chrome did back in November. Meanwhile, in a recent interview with TMC, UberConference CEO and co-founder Craig Walker pointed to the fact that WebRTC offers “very high-quality audio built right into the browser.”

UberConference uses the HD audio codec OPUS to facilitate high definition audio over WebRTC, resulting in “the best possible sound quality for each call.” More impressively, OPUS enables this quality while adapting to changes in available network bandwidth, making it unobtrusive. This allows UberConference to transmit more of the audio spectrum, for calls that sound like the participants are in the same room.

"Until today, conference calls couldn't deliver the rich audio of in-person meetings," said Walker in a statement. "Now, with OPUS and UberConference, the quality of your conference calls is truly amazing."

Aside from delivering industry-changing announcements, Walker has also spoken at ITEXPO this week, as part of two keynote panels: "Service Providers: Smart Ecosystem Facilitators or Dumb Pipes?" which took place on Wednesday, and "Five Technologies Critical to the Future of Business," which commenced this morning at 9 a.m.

He has also acted as a judge this week for ITEXPO’s StartupCamp8, a pitch event focused on the communications sector. This event, which ran on Aug. 27, allowed privately funded start-ups to present their ideas to industry leaders and ITEXPO attendees.
