TeleSpeak's Chance Myers Talks UC Trends with TMC

ITEXPO is just over the horizon, and with it, the chance for thousands of IT professionals, industry leaders, and those with a general fascination toward the market to come together and share in-depth insights and rising trends, as well as launch exciting new and vertical forerunner products. Taking place at The Rio in beautiful Las Vegas, Nev., on August 11-14, this year’s conference promises to be the best yet.

Making a major impact at this year’s show is award winning communications juggernaut, Telespeak. Providing Collaborative, PBX, Fixed Mobile Convergence, and Contact Center solutions for businesses of all sizes, Telespeak positions itself, through tried and true offerings, as an authoritative presence in the fields of both unified communications (UC) and WebRTC.

Serving as orator for Telespeak will be Chance Myers, chief sales and marketing officer, who will be entering two panel sessions: ‘Productive Collaboration: Using the Right Tools for Process Improvement’, where he will discuss proper UC utilization for businesses, and ‘Making the Decision Between On-premises, Cloud, and Hybrid’, a platform meant to help him drive home the fact that any infrastructure has its advantages and disadvantages, according to Myers.

TMC recently had the opportunity to chat with Myers, who took the time to share with us his views on the evolution of the UC market, as well as its symbiotic counter parts: BYOD, the cloud, and WebRTC.

Why is Microsoft Lync gaining as much traction as it is? How will its growth impact other UC vendors?

It isn’t just Lync, but unified communications solutions as a whole are gaining acceptance, and that’s what we’re seeing on the hosted side. Businesses want many of these productivity tools, like presence management or document sharing, but have been scared away from high implementation costs and expensive licenses. In a hosted model, these challenges go away, and that’s a big reason behind the growth in adoption.

Is the BYOD trend slowing down or is it still gaining momentum?  Why?

From what we’re seeing, BYOD is rapidly gaining momentum. Anytime you can reduce or even eliminate hardware costs, businesses are going to sit up and take notice. Plus, giving staff members the freedom to use their personal devices for business activities is an added benefit. As businesses become more comfortable with implementing usage and security policies to support BYOD environments, the trend will continue.

Do you trust the cloud?  Please explain.

The cloud is highly reliable—and in many instances—more secure than premise-based technology. It’s important that cloud providers utilize Tier 1 data centers to secure personal information and data. These environments have multiple layers of security, and very strong redundancy to maintain service levels in the event of a natural or man-made disturbance. So, the short answer is yes, I have full faith in a robust and resilient cloud environment.

What is going to be the biggest trend or innovation in business technology in the next year?

The evolution of WebRTC will continue to transform how businesses communicate with customers. The introduction of Amazon’s Mayday feature certainly illustrates how customer service can be taken to a new level by combining voice, chat and video in a single interface. We’re working at improving on these solutions by bringing to market a whole new WebRTC-powered ecosystem that will have the ability to transform industries like education, healthcare and professional services.

What are you looking forward to at ITEXPO?

By bringing together so many varied vendors and customers, ITEXPO provides a great forum to learn about the successes and challenges that some of these companies have in developing new innovation. For example, the information that will be shared on both WebRTC and enterprise mobility will be particularly useful as developers and providers continue to evaluate new approaches in bringing these solutions to market. These types of interaction are very common at ITEXPO.

For more industry insights from Chance Myers and Telespeak, be sure to check out both of his panel sessions at the upcoming ITEXPO conference, August 11-14, 2014, at The Rio in Las Vegas, Nev. Keep up with all the latest ITEXPO developments here, and don’t miss your chance to be rub elbows with some of the very best in IT. Follow the event on Twitter at @ITEXPO.
