Vidyo Co-founder Dr. Alex Eleftheriadis to Deliver Keynote at WebRTC Conference & Expo V

Visual communication leader in IoT to provide insight at browser-to-browser event

Norwalk, CT – November 3, 2014 – TMC, Systemwide Media and PKE Consulting today announced that Vidyo’s Chief Scientist and Co-founder, Dr. Alex Eleftheriadis, will present a keynote address at WebRTC Conference & Expo V, held November 18-20, 2014, at the San Jose Convention Center in San Jose, Calif. The event will explore how Web-based Real-Time Communication (WebRTC) is set to revolutionize the way businesses and consumers communicate by enabling true browser-to-browser communications. Eleftheriadis will deliver his presentation on Wednesday, November 19, at 12:10 p.m.

Vidyo delivers amazing visual communications and price performance to power the “human interaction” in the era of the Internet of Things. The VidyoWorks platform and APIs leverage Scalable Video Coding (SVC) and Vidyo’s patented VidyoRouter to deliver scalable video conferencing, collaboration solutions and cloud-based services over public networks at a price comparable to audio conferencing. Vidyo is working with Google on the development of a scalable video extension of the VP9 codec as part of the WebRTC client open source project. Vidyo has more than 70 patents issued and patents pending in more than 60 patent families in various jurisdictions around the world.

“Vidyo has demonstrated that scalable video coding is the way forward for high-quality, real-time video over the Internet, and nearly all companies in the field have followed our lead,” said Eleftheriadis. “Vidyo’s past announcement with Google concerning the development of a scalable video extension for VP9 is further testament to the need for scalability on the video codec, regardless of its origin. Vidyo’s platform combines the power of a standardized client API with the most scalable and high-quality back-end, and is ready not just for VP8 and H.264, but for VP9, HEVC and beyond.”

Dr. Alex Eleftheriadis drives the technical vision and direction for Vidyo and also represents the company on standardization committees and technical advisory boards. He is an award-winning researcher, bringing over 24 years of research experience in video compression and communications to his role at Vidyo. Eleftheriadis as more than 100 publications, holds more than 80 patents (several of which are used in Blu-ray Disc, H.264/AVC and ATSC digital television systems), and has served as the Editor of the MPEG-4 Systems specification, Co-Editor of the H.264 SVC Conformance specification, and Co-Editor of IETF’s RTP Payload Format for SVC.  He is a member of the board of IMTC and co-chairs the IMTC Scalable and Simulcast Video Activity Group.

During Vidyo’s keynote at WebRTC Conference & Expo V, Eleftheriadis will discuss the history and benefits of scalable video coding and how they will be applied and leveraged within WebRTC. Until now, video and audio communications were only possible using dedicated applications and devices. WebRTC will provide a standardized API to the functions of a real-time communication device, built into a Web browser. Eleftheriadis will discuss how Vidyo’s multi-stream architecture and endpoint-based composition are the perfect match for WebRTC, allowing video and audio communication to be integrated into applications in ways that were previously not possible.

“Vidyo has proven that it is at the forefront of the WebRTC technology movement,” said Event Producer and TMC President Dave Rodriguez. “Alex possesses a wealth of industry experience and knowledge and we look forward to having him share his insight with the WebRTC Conference & Expo attendees.”

Vidyo is a Platinum Sponsor of WebRTC Conference & Expo V, which is also supported by Diamond Sponsors Ericsson and Kandy; additional Platinum Sponsors Browsetel, CaféX, Content Boost, Dialogic, Imagination Technologies, Oracle, Plantronics, Priologic, Sansay, Temasys and TokBox; Gold Sponsors Aspect, AudioCodes, Bistri, Eyeball Networks, Frozen Mountain, Huawei, Ingate, Intel, IQServices, Kurento, OnSIP, Sonus and Voxbone; and Silver Sponsors Acision, Daitan Group, Digium, Matrix, SightCall, TollFreeClicks, TollFreeRewards, Twilio, Videotion and Voice4Net.
