WebRTC: Solaborate tops $1 Million in Funding

Solaborate has reason to celebrate.

As the company readies for the wide launch its social networking platform exclusively for tech professionals (the first of its kind), it announced on Tuesday that it has topped one-million dollars in seed funding from angel and individual investors.

Solaborate, now launched in Beta, enables technology professionals and companies to connect, collaborate and work to create an ecosystem around their tech products and services.

Built on Microsoft Windows Azure cloud computing, using HTML5, WebSockets, and WebRTC protocol for real-time communications, Solaborate allows for interaction between other social media channels such as LinkedIn, Facebook, Google+, and Twitter.

Looking to serve as the ultimate meeting grounds for technology professionals to discuss and, ideally, solve business problems, Solaborate invites tech professionals to post questions, share documents and presentations, chat, use video conferencing, create groups, and provide best practices, all within the channel's platform.

Users can also search and apply for jobs and other opportunities, provide commentary, preview product demos, and surely much more that will come to light as the service is rolled out officially.

Labinot Bytyqi, founder and chief executive officer of Solaborate, reasons that the Internet is filled with destinations where users can share and network with fellow users, but there is no place other than Solaborate where users can “collaborate in real time.” Bytyqi goes on to say that Solaborate is taking the best of social media a step further, adding: “Solaborate makes it easy to share relevant content from a central platform with peers, colleagues, vendors and customers. We are building a community around products and services, all in one dedicated place for technology professionals."

Bytyqi said some way Solaborate users may use the networking too is by asking fellow tech pros for help solving an indecipherable coding error, discuss Workday’s cloud solutions or talk shop about the latest SAP software release. Users also can receive “tech scores” -- a kind of endorsement that ranks a user's contributions on the site.

Solaborate was actually founded in 2011, but the company has been on an invite-only pilot since.
