Tropo Snags 'Wow Factor' Award at WebRTC Expo

Living up to its reputation as a leader in real-time communications API’s, Voxeo Labs announced that the company has officially changed its name to Tropo Inc. The move comes just weeks after Tropo won the award for best “Wow Factor” at the recent WebRTC Expo in Atlanta.

“With over 190,000 developers and businesses using Tropo, and recent wins in seven of the leading telecom vendors in the world – including AT&T and Deutsche Telekom – [as well as the aforementioned ‘Wow Factor’ award], the strength of Tropo as a company, product, and brand is unquestionable”, said Jason Goecke, president and CEO of Tropo Inc.

At the WebRTC Expo, Tropo joined an elite group of presenters who took home awards in their particular categories. The WebRTC Conference & Expo allows enterprises, service providers, Web application providers, investors and developers to gather together and explore how WebRTC is set to revolutionize the way everyone communicates by allowing true browser-to-browser communications.

“When you have more than 35 companies each demoing their applications of a ground-breaking technology as WebRTC, everyone is a winner,” said event producer Phil Edholm of PKE Consulting.

At WebRTC, a Tropo rep took the bull by the horns and did his entire presentation from an Android phone, proving that Tropo does indeed offer a mobile application.

The app is called “Phone API,” which is a Web-friendly JQuery API, offering voice, messaging, video and cross browser/cross platform capabilities. The idea is to allow users to avoid SIP registration and other roadblocks to easier communications. The target market for the company is Web developers, and the app is adaptable to any platform. The company hopes its efforts will open up “new ways of communications that we haven’t really thought about,” according to a company spokesman.
