WebRTC is Much Like VoIP and Will Soon Have its Day

WebRTC is a new technology – but certainly not one that those in the tech space are unfamiliar with. Service providers, enterprises, call centers – are all looking to the innovation and promise of the Web-based real time communications capabilities to better their offerings and capabilities.

One company that’s already making its mark in the space is Dialogic. The company’s large portfolio of products includes telephony infrastructure and developer enabling products as well as media processors.

Dialogic’s senior VP of product marketing, Jim Machi, spoke with TMC during WebRTC V about the hype around WebRTC and how closely the market resembles that of 1998 - when VoIP was entering the tech space as the latest and greatest innovation. Keeping this in mind, it’s easy to see that there are lots of great things to come ahead in the space.

Machi also described his thoughts on why there has been slower uptake than anticipated and what role standardization  plays and the importance of new technologies like WebRTC to be ‘business ready’ if large adoption rates are to be had.

Being business ready, Machi explained, means having applications that are worth-while for businesses and can be used to either help them save money, or make money.

Currently, as with VoIP back when it was first being implemented and tested there, is a lot of background work being done, and Machi said, once all of the kinks are worked out, we will just start to see the technology in use and without some people even realizing they are using WebRTC.

Dialogic is at ITEXPO in Miami this week at booth #317 and participating in sessions at the event.

ITEXPO, being held January 27-30, 2015, at the Miami Beach Convention Center in Miami, Florida, is the business technology event that brings together service providers, enterprises, government agencies, resellers, vendors and developers to demo, discuss and network all the latest innovations changing the marketplace.
