Getting in Shape with Real Time Communications

Getting in shape isn’t fun - especially if you have a lot of work to do. For most of us at least, it involves pushing your body, exerting energy and sweating. If you don’t have a particular outdoor activity you’re interested in, things can go stale pretty quickly. Pounding away on a treadmill even to your favorite music can eventually become monotonous.

But how fun would it be if you had an app that not only told you workouts to do but also connected socially and let you use real time communications to meet and compete with others also trying to get fit?

That’s the concept behind a new prototype that will be demonstrated at the Real Time Web Solutions Conference happening in New York this week.

Real Time Communications innovator Xura Inc. will be taking part in the, “Getting Real with RTC Demo” today, Wed., Aug. 3 at 5 p.m.  where various companies will have the opportunity to demo their product, tool or other RTC offer. This will be the first time the Weqool prototype is showcased.

For the demo, Xura will show how its forge platform makes it possible for Weqool to have real time in its immersive social fitness app.

The forge by Xura platform will bring video and IM capabilities to the app so users can virtually meet and communicate while they are working out.

Alex Bulley, Co-Founder of Weqool commented, “Our aim is to reinvent the concept of online fitness, by facilitating positive interactions among users with common interests through the medium of unique Weqool experiences, to make exercising more fun, engaging and social, regardless of where you are at that moment.”

Xura worked with Blacc Spot Media, a WebRTC, mobile and web application development house to create the prototype for Weqool. With the app, users can watch pre-recorded instructional workout videos or have social interactions – everything from chatting to video calls, with others also using the app.

There seems to be a lot of potential here to not only get people motivated to workout but also to compete with peers for better results and maybe engage in conversations with professionals and trainers using the network who were previously out of reach.

Xura is a Platinum Sponsor of the Real Time Web Solutions Conference and is exhibiting at booth #10. On Thurs., Aug. 4 at 1 p.m., Technical Director Peter Dunkley will deliver a keynote presentation “Hybrid Deployment for RTC PaaS” that will discuss the benefits of hybrid deployment for RTC.

For those who can’t make the in-person demo, it can be seen live here, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6__EmaoqzIs.
