Pexip Infinity Introduces Native Lync Interoperability

Pexip has released version 4.0 of its Pexip Infinity offering, which introduces native interoperability with Microsoft Lync 2010, 2013 and Lync Online/Office 365. In other words, Pexip Infinity now allows organizations to meet and share data and presentations by way of almost any enterprise video conferencing endpoint, Lync client or WebRTC-capable browser.

It’s been speculated in the past that Pexip Infinity make take the lead in enterprise-grade video conferencing as it is extremely flexible, allowing for an unlimited number of personal meeting rooms for video conferencing users. With the inclusion of Lync support, this seems more likely than ever.

Put simply, Pexip Infinity extends Lync’s capabilities, adding virtual meeting rooms for everyone in an organization, while allowing WebRTC participants to join without the need for any browser plug-ins. All told, Pexip Infinity version 4.0 supports H.264 SVC as used by Lync 2013, RTVideo as used by Lync 2010, and RDP (Remote Desktop Protocol) content sharing, which is used by all versions of Lync. All of these formats are transcoded to any of the other protocols — SIP, H.323 and WebRTC — Pexip Infinity already supports.

In conjunction with release 4.0 of Pexip Infinity, independent professional services firm Arup has decided to deploy the solution worldwide. This will enable Arup’s 11,000 staff to communicate across 38 countries with HD video, voice and data.

“Initially, within our proof of concept for next generation virtual meeting rooms, we were evaluating bridging solutions from three different vendors,” said Chris Ellen, Unified Messaging Team Lead at Arup, in a statement. “However, we found these to be more complex than needed — they also required proprietary hardware and could not achieve satisfactory interoperability and HD video integration with Microsoft Lync. Pexip Infinity was brought in through a revised vendor list. It met our requirements for a software-only solution and we had it working globally in less than two hours. We were really impressed.”

Pexip Infinity 4.0 also includes a distributed gateway for point-to-point calls between any type of endpoint, whether Lync, traditional video conferencing or WebRTC.
