Ingate President Says SIP, WebRTC Are Hot Trends for 2017

Ingate Systems has become a fixture at ITEXPO events. The company will be participating again at the upcoming show, being held Feb. 8-10 in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. In fact, Steven Johnson, Ingate’s president, will be taking part in a panel titled “Revenue Opportunities with Communications Apps,” to be held Thursday, Feb. 9 at 3 p.m.

Here’s what Johnson has to say about ITEXPO, communications trends, and how the company is employing technology internally:

What emerging technology has the potential to have a disruptive impact on businesses in the coming years?

WebRTC could revolutionize the way work is done, the way communication is handled and the media that are used.

What does the term collaboration mean to your business?

Collaboration is the means of communicating in real time with multimedia over the Internet. We use WebRTC to our great advantage both internally to our multinational company as well as with customers, prospects, and partners.

What elements of unified communications are most useful for your company?

Real-time desktop video conferencing.

What percentage of your workforce would you consider mobile and how do you keep those mobile workers in the loop?

Most of us are mobile at times, working from home or other off-site locations. With Ingate’s SIP technology we can use the systems from any device, anywhere, making us all more productive.

How has the growth in the managed services market impacted your business?

It is changing the market for our SIParator Session Border Controllers, but the requirement remains.

How have the growing number of high-visibility security breaches impacted your outlook on security?

They underscore the need for session border controllers to [keep] the unified communications implementation safe from hackers. All of the breaches that have been reported are of great concern. But those that make the news frequently, such as the hack of the DNC email servers, certainly garner the most attention.

Is the cloud/MSP model a realistic one for reliable IT security?

Not in my opinion. There are too many unknowns. I hear from companies that are most vulnerable that they will not migrate to the cloud. I think all businesses should heed their caution and be very scrupulous in evaluating a cloud-based model and monitor carefully the levels of security protection that are included.

Is the channel keeping up with the latest tech trends and developments?

More education is needed I think. There are shape-shifting events going on in the UC markets that will affect every business within three years. The push from the telcos to push their customers to all-IP and SIP trunking is catching fire, and businesses of every size must be prepared to make the shift quickly.

What is the focus of your session at ITEXPO?

It is about the reasons that SIP trunking adoption is expanding so rapidly now, and the best practices surrounding a robust and safe implementation.

What are you most looking forward to at ITEXPO 2017?

To meet with potential customers and to get a sense of the dynamics at work in the market today.

If you’d like to hear more from Mr. Johnson, make sure to check out his session at ITEXPO this coming February. See you there!
