Visual Communication Industry Group to Discuss Desktop Videoconferencing

The Visual Communication Industry Group’s next VCIG-Live event is approaching. Set for Thursday, May 16 at 1:00 p.m. ET, it will discuss and explore the deployment and use of desktop video conferencing, with panelists from Vidyo, Compass and the Kansas Research and Education Network.

The VCIG-Live event is hosted by one of the largest videoconferencing user groups around, and will present issues from a variety of perspectives. The discussions will also include the aspects of desktop deployments that work, as well as those that don’t, while looking at the issues, opportunities and risks in deploying desktop videoconferencing.

The panel will be moderated by JD Vaughn, chairman of the VCI-Group Advisory Council, and includes representatives from Kansas Research and Education Network, Vidyo and Compass Business Solutions. The session itself is sponsored and hosted by Cisco WebEx.

"With the rollout of WebRTC, and other easy to use soft codecs and cloud-based MCUs, desktop videoconferencing will soon become as widespread as any application at the desktop,” Vaughn states. “This is already impacting traditional users, networks and overtaxing MCUs and infrastructure. Consider that now with the deployment of WebRTC we have jumped overnight from 20-odd million videoconferencing end points to over 400 million PCs equipped to use videoconferencing from the desktop. Some analysts say we will reach 20 billion end points within seven years. It is our job to keep our members informed and prepared for this tidal wave of growth."

For those who are either experts in desktop video conferencing or wish to learn more about it, this session is a great opportunity to learn some insights into the customer experience, the issues that IT and videoconferencing managers face, and what organizations must consider before implementing desktop videoconferencing. Users can expect an informative and interesting discussion involving all sides and aspects of the subject, so for those interested or involved in desktop videoconferencing, it could prove very helpful.
