FreeSWITCH Selects Flowroute for PSTN-WebRTC Interoperability

WebRTC is rapidly growing, as the technology for it improves and people begin realizing potential. As such, it’s predicted that by 2016, more than 3 billion endpoints will be WebRTC-enabled. In order to enable interoperability between WebRTC endpoints and the PSTN, FreeSWITCH has begun using Flowroute’s SIP trunking service.

The SIP trunking from Flowroute uses a worldwide network of Tier 1 carriers, offering businesses everywhere enterprise-grade VoIP services. Now that FreeSWITCH has begun using it, the company can extend PBX systems to WebRTC portals.

As a result of this combination, companies can use several new business-to-business and business-to-customer communications options, such as click-to-call chat on WebRTC-enabled browsers. And due to the aforementioned growth in WebRTC, that’s a lot of browsers that both are and will be WebRTC compatible. That will make it easier than ever for customers to reach the company and get help, suggestions, or just pass on compliments, while communication between employees and businesses gets equally enhanced.

All these improved communications are made possible by combining SIP, VoIP and WebRTC, which FreeSWITCH can now do with Flowroute. This stands as a testament to its role in helping SIP-standard VoIP grow and evolve, as the very thought would have been laughable in just years before.

“FreeSWITCH was designed with the future in mind and we've tried to stay ahead of the curve whenever possible,” says FreeSWITCH’s primary author, Anthony Minessale. “Flowroute has been there with us every step of the way. Thanks to Flowroute, we can concentrate on what's important, Development. We can count on Flowroute to provide a robust PSTN interconnect for all of our testing and communication needs. Flowroute's continued support of our project and our annual ClueCon conference in Chicago every summer is a big reason we are so successful.”

The future is almost here, as WebRTC will open up means of communication previously thought to be things of science fiction. Quick, easy conferencing over any browser or endpoint is possible, and thanks to Flowroute, it’s now easy for FreeSWITCH to provide quality WebRTC communication.
