GENBAND Bridges Gap Between Traditional Telecom and Web

GENBAND, a provider of IP networking and communications solutions, is a little different from the other participants at the WebRTC Conference & Expo this week in Santa Clara. Its technology sits on the edge of the network to enable users to embed GENBAND’s WebRTC functionality in their unified communications systems or websites. Its focus is on bringing traditional telecom to today’s world of mobile and Web.

I caught up with Ken Workun, director of solutions marketing at GENBAND, at the event, who showed me the company’s WebRTC technology in action. It works with UC systems to offer features like presence, chat and collaboration, and can be embedded on websites to enable instant video communication. I got to see what the technology can look like as an end-user and as a support agent in a customer service-type of application on a website. The agents can also receive analytical data such as the website or product a customer was looking at.

I also got to see a call originating from a desktop to a mobile device, and then see the seamless switch from desktop to mobile, truly representing a shift in how users are using technology today – on the go and on multiple devices, and demanding an instant and reliable connection.

GENBAND offers SPiDR WebRTC Gateway, which provides open, Web-centric APIs to enable developers to leverage rich communications services of the telecommunications network. It also interworks signaling and media planes between the Web and telecom worlds for service providers and enterprises.

The company also offers GENCom for Web, which is a browser-based WebRTC soft client that simplifies the deployment of communications services.

GENBAND is keeping busy this week in Santa Clara at the WebRTC Conference and Expo. It is participating in multiple sessions, including “The WebRTC Big Build Comparison,” “Communications Enabling Business Processes,” “WebRTC Portals and the Social Enterprise” and its keynote session, happening Thursday, Nov. 21, which will cover an e-commerce customer story on replicating a real retail experience on the Web. The company is also demonstrating its solutions in a demo session at the event, exhibiting at booth #401 and is a diamond sponsor of the event.
