Screen Sharing with WebRTC and AnyMeeting

What would it mean for your business if you could enable real-time communications across geographical borders without downloading software or a variety of plugins? Wouldn’t it be great if you could launch a full company meeting between all branches of an organization and everyone could connect by simply clicking in a browser?

This is the concept behind WebRTC, a technology focused on real-time communications and open-source development that removes many of the proprietary barriers that currently exist in communications technologies. While many users don’t know what is ready and waiting for them to take advantage of, the enterprise is excited to eliminate technology bottlenecks and make collaboration a priority.

In an effort to support this trend and technology already embraced by Opera, Google Chrome and Firefox, TMC hosts the WebRTC Conference & Expo, most recently held in Santa Clara, Calif. This conference brings together experts, users and complimentary vendors to demonstrate the capabilities this technology brings to the table.

One such vendor is AnyMeeting. The provider of a Web conferencing platform was on hand to demonstrate its screen sharing solution. AnyMeeting shares a solution designed specifically for WebRTC. The exciting part is the company has only been working on it for the past six months, yet has made considerable advancements in something that is typically locked inside the browser.

In terms of collaboration and communication, screen sharing is essential. If the user is blocked from making the most out of the experience, it’s possible they won’t get the intended benefit from the real-time communications. The company wanted to demonstrate that to optimize on WebRTC, it really should be all about peer to peer, simple screen sharing. With a click of the AnyMeeting Screen Sharing solution, you simply wait for someone to join your screen sharing by entering the correct URL.

To demo this capability, a second screen was set up and another AnyMeeting employee launched his PC browser with the targeted URL. He joined the presenter’s screen, enjoying the peer-to-peer experience. It’s what the CEO referred to as nothing more than, “dumb, simple screen sharing.” For those who struggle to achieve this level of collaboration, they’re likely to consider it anything but dumb.

AnyMeeting hopes to make extensions to this technology in the next couple of quarters, making the WebRTC experience even better for those who currently enjoy it. At half a million users strong, AnyMeeting is braced for growth, especially as it delivers a strong solution to enable open source capabilities. As the end user learns more about the capabilities afforded with WebRTC, we’re likely to hear even more.
