GENBAND Picks mPortal's SPRINGBOARD Comms for Next-gen UC

mPortal has announced that GENBAND has selected its SPRINGBOARD Comms to build its next generation of unified communications software.

“As the popularity of mobile devices combined with cloud-based services continues to grow, we’re seeing huge shifts in how people connect at work,” said mPortal CEO D.P. Venkatesh. “The successful uptake of UC services is extremely dependent on the end-to-end user experience, which is about both user interface and user experience. We’re very excited and proud that GENBAND chose us to help power this unique and exciting solution.”

Springboard chose SPRINGBOARD Comms because they could adapt its existing SMART OFFICE 2.0 unified communications platform that’s based on WebRTC-enabled browsers (currently Firefox, Chrome and Opera) to support smartphones and tablets.

“Since SMART OFFICE was first developed we envisioned creating a new kind of mobile work experience,” said BG Kumar, President of GENBAND’s multimedia business unit. “We’ve taken away the limits previously imposed on employees when they leave the office. mPortal’s proven platform has been instrumental in helping us leverage the power of connected devices and dramatically expand business communications.”

Administrators can manage users communicating through voice, video and text using a single interface. They can also customize the application to a particular employee’s role. The interface is the same across smartphones, tablets and PCs, making it easy for employees to learn and transfer their skills across their different devices.

As consumers opt for more mobile devices and insist on bringing them to work under BYOD policies, IT professionals are finding themselves managing very heterogeneous environments. WebRTC looks like a viable solution, as it’s an open standard and easy to integrate into the growing number of UC platforms.

As users demand more flexibility and the ability to work from everywhere, across different devices, UC systems using WebRTC could be a very valuable and “future-proof” option to build a mobile workforce.
