Vidyo Offers Announcement on VidyoWorks' WebRTC Support

Bringing support for Web-based real time communications (WebRTC) to product lines is becoming a rapidly-increasing priority for a lot of firms these days, and with good reason. After all, a technology that allows businesses to not only connect with other businesses, but also to customers—and even allows those customers to connect with each other as well—is a technology that has a host of different applications, and allows for some spectacular diversity of investment all from one central development point. To that end, Vidyo recently announced that it was offering support for WebRTC in both VidyoWorks and the VidyoConferencing product portfolio. However, its support for WebRTC doesn't end at the product line.

The new augmentations to VidyoWorks come in the form of, at least in part, a new JavaScript application programming interface (API) that allows for quick connections of WebRTC clients with Vidyo’s infrastructure, all without requiring the user to install different software tools and the like to get the support in play. Plus, the company also announced Vidyo Server for WebRTC, which allows full participant access to Vidyo calling, again with no download required, and even the ability to join in on Vidyo conferences from several different platforms, including those that aren't immediately compliant with WebRTC. Plus, Video’s systems already offer support for several other environments ranging from native desktop to legacy H.323 and beyond.

Vidyo has actually been around the WebRTC concept for some time; back in 2013, Vidyo and Google—one of the real driving forces behind WebRTC's growth—got together to drive up video quality in WebRTC VP9, and Video’s VidyoRouter system brought some of the necessary architecture and infrastructure to the table that allowed for such improvements to be put in place. Indeed, Vidyo is actually set to be a major part of the upcoming WebRTC Conference & Expo V, where it not only serves as a Platinum Sponsor of the event, but also has some plans to bring some content to the event as well. On Tuesday, November 18 from 3:40 to 4:20 p.m., Vidyo's chief scientist and co-founder, Alex Eleftheriadis will be part of a panel titled What's Next in WebRTC Standards?. Joined by several others in the field, the panel will examine new features of WebRTC like screen sharing, but also look at new object applications programming interfaces (APIs) and several other points. Additionally, Eleftheriadis will be on hand for a Wednesday panel from 9:10 to 9:50 a.m., titled Standards Update & Direction which will be of particular value for those looking to start WebRTC developments or release currently-developed material. Eleftheriadis will also be on hand for a keynote luncheon on Wednesday at 12:10 p.m., which will feature a presentation from the company, as well as several other events featuring a Vidyo presence.

It's clear that Vidyo has an interest in development in WebRTC, and has a stake in the future of said development as well. Its advances will be clearly on display at the WebRTC Conference & Expo V event, joining other major names in the field to not only show off what's already on hand, but what will be coming to drive the market in the near-term future. There's a lot to come with WebRTC, and those who are ready for the advancements are most likely to gain from these.
