Requestec Demo Impresses at WebRTC III Conference and Expo

It landed a judge's choice consideration on the first night of demonstrations at the WebRTC III Conference and Expo. It followed up that early distinction by netting the Best All Around award during Tuesday night’s events. All this from a company called Requestec. The demonstration it put together for the WebRTC III Conference and Expo was definitely one to see.

Using feedback from demonstrations at previous WebRTC Conference and Expo events (the company won the Ready Now award back in Atlanta this past July) and heeding several customer requests, Requestec made some modifications to the product, particularly in the realm of available meeting rooms and presenter tools. Customer-specific APIs, in turn, allowed for easy portability, letting companies install Requestec functionality in various other properties.

The demonstration showed off various parts of the Requestec system, from its video conferencing window to its common whiteboard-style presentation space. An instant messaging system has also been built-in directly under the video conferencing window to allow for individual consultations or for users to ask questions. It's all built in HTML, complete with customization and branding functions, allowing for a very easy and multi-purpose setup. Even PSTN calling can be accommodated with a PSTN-to-SIP client. Moreover, it is able to operate in surprisingly low-bandwidth environments, as the Opus wideband audio codec tolerates a connection as low as a 40 kbps for audio streaming. It can be used on Flash, Android and iOS platforms as well.

Basically, Requestec has put together an extremely versatile conferencing system, complete with a host of options and a variety of services. Indeed, the sheer number of applications for Requestec's platform is staggering. As an educational tool, for example, it's a winner, enabling remote classes with a high level of interactivity and audience participation. There's also room for the platform to be used as a top-notch video conferencing solution, and given the sheer number of companies turning to video conferencing as a way to both save money on travel and produce that face-to-face contact so vital for making and keeping business relationships, it's likely to make a lot of business users happy.

Requestec's demo showed off the kind of power that Web-based real time communications (WebRTC) can bring to bear on many standard business applications, in addition to educational and even recreational applications. With so many uses available, its sheer ease of use made obvious in the demo shows it to be a powerful system indeed and explains why the company took as many accolades as it did at the WebRTC III Conference and Expo. Only time will tell where it goes from here, but it should be impressive by any standard.
