Dialogic Optimizes I-Gate Media Gateways to Transform Networks

In a world of both WebRTC and the PSTN, media gateways are critical in converting media streams between different networks. Companies need a way to deliver advanced services, such as HD voice, while also keeping budgets in mind and meeting customer and usage demands.

Dialogic recently enhanced its line of I-Gate media gateways, which are designed for telecom operators looking to move over to IP networks. The gateways focus on HD voice services, optimization of VoIP links, IMS MGCF IP-to-IP and IP-TDM media interworking, high-density class 4 applications and medium to small-scale applications.

The enhancements enable communication service providers (CSP) to deliver high-quality voice services and lower the cost of doing so.

“CSPs are asking us for modern gateways that can help them keep pace with their transformation from next generation networks to IMS, and make that transition easy,” said Jim Machi, vice president of product management for Dialogic, in a statement. “For instance, service providers want to gear up their networks to offer new and differentiated services like HD Voice and position their networks for WebRTC, and our I-Gate PRO customers can simply do a software upgrade to obtain the new codecs such as HD Voice. Second, they want to economize their CAPEX and OPEX spend on voice infrastructure. The I-Gate 4000 family can optimize voice up to 93 percent, yet keep exceptional voice quality, enabling legacy T1 and E1 voice circuits to be taken out of service. And finally, they want an open and reliable solution that can connect to a variety of Class 4 softswitches to help them get the most out of their existing infrastructure without compromising network availability.”

I-Gate EDGE and PRO media gateways offer bandwidth optimization technology for circuit-switched networks extended to VoIP networks, voice processing technology, signal detection and processing techniques and support for a wide range of transmission infrastructure.

Earlier this year, Dialogic was recognized for its media server software, integrated media gateway and session border controller with two 2013 Editor’s Choice Awards from CTI Forum. PowerMedia XMS offers support for IETF and W3C WebRTC codecs and technologies to provide real-time video and audio mixing, security, signaling and NAT/firewall traversal with WebRTC-enabled HTML5 browsers. The BorderNet 2020 SBC transforms media and signaling to support efficient and reliable voice, fax and multimedia sessions for mobile and cloud-based applications. It combines SBC functionality with IP and TDM gateway capabilities in a 1U form factor appliance, which reduces capital and operating expenses.
