Development continues apace around the concept known as Web-based real time communications (WebRTC), and with good reason. This technology has shown itself to be a cost saver, a revenue driver, and a technology that as a whole is only just getting started. But how does one make sense of all the new developments in the field? Now that we've got a weekend on hand, it's a great time to take a step back and make sense out of the biggest news that hit this week; so settle in, because it's time for our Week in Review coverage!
First, we had a look at Videotion, who recently exhibited its product at the WebRTC Conference & Expo in Atlanta, showing off its breed of virtual meeting room system that can be accomplished via a standard Web browser with comparatively simple tools. Operating on most of the major operating systems—including Mac, Windows, Android and RedHat—allows it to access a wide array of users with its easy to use mix of features, including SMS notifications of users joining the room and the ability to close the room as needed.
Then we saw how LiveOps was bringing cloud contact center capabilities sufficient to allow users to go completely over to software-based solutions with a minimal need for hardware. Thanks to LiveOps' new LiveOps WebRTC Solution, companies are now able to bring the features of a contact center to a desktop browser, opening up a whole new set of possibilities for users, and in many cases lowering costs, thanks to the reduced need for capital expenses to establish a full contact center system.
Comverse brought in the next piece of news, acquiring Spain's Solaiemes in a bid to augment its Evolved Communications Suite (ECS) system with a new set of digital services. Meanwhile, Comverse's ECS system offers an array of useful features, including voice calling, text messaging, group chatting, video sharing, and the ability to harvest information from social networks. Solaiemes, meanwhile, will allow Comverse access to WebRTC technology via its WebRTC Telecom Gateway and RCS WebClient system.
Next we had a look at what CafeX was looking to bring to the upcoming ITEXPO event, set to take place August 11 – 14 at the Rio in Las Vegas. CafeX's vice president of marketing and partner development, Sajeel Hussein, will be speaking at two sessions at the event--”WebRTC and the Exceptional Customer Experience” and “What WebRTC Means to Your Enterprise Communications”. But CafeX's plans go well beyond these points, and reports of collaboration tools and Google Glass functionality are set to follow.
Finally, we had a look at TeleSpeak, whose chief sales and marketing officer Chance Myers recently offered up some perspective on trends in unified communications (UC) in an interview ahead of the upcoming ITEXPO event. Myers will further be on hand to engage in two panel sessions: “Productive Collaboration: Using the Right Tools for Process Improvement” and “Making the Decision Between On-Premises, Cloud and Hybrid”.
That was the week that was in WebRTC, and it was clear that there was plenty going on, and plenty more to come in the near-term future. With just a few days until ITEXPO opens, the industry waits with bated breath for a new host of developments to arrive across several sectors. Our global online community likewise waits with breathless anticipation to bring back all the best in news, so be sure to join us next week for all the latest as well as every weekend for our Week in Review!
