Tropo, Dialogic Collaborate to Create New Era of Video Communications Services

Plugin-free, browser-based real-time communications is as popular as you think. A 2013 Dialogic survey found that 37.7 percent of respondents believe WebRTC – the technology enabling this real-time communication – offers a broader benefit to unified communications solutions, and nearly half of respondents intend to deploy a WebRTC solution within a year.

The WebRTC momentum continues with the news that Tropo is supporting Dialogic’s PowerMedia XMS media server, which enables standards-based, real-time multimedia communications solutions for mobile and broadband environments. The most recent version, PowerMedia XMS 2.1, helps people move away from a more traditional office and into the future, which includes WebRTC video conferencing.

The partnership is combining PowerMedia XMS’ rich media processing for real-time video with Tropo’s platform, which enables users to build phone and SMS applications and add real-time communications to applications.

“The response we’ve received from the global telco community has been all positive, particularly as WebRTC has ignited the imagination and activity in the value-added communication services markets,” stated Jason Goecke, CEO and president of Tropo. “PowerMedia XMS will allow us to add video to our extensive lineup of APIs.”

The media server can be used to build a variety of real-time multimedia processing solutions, such as IVR, voice messaging, notification systems, video conferencing and social interaction applications. Combined with Tropo, PowerMedia XMS can power services and solutions for millions of users with its scalable video processing capability.

“Our work with Tropo brings the underlying CaaS muscle of PowerMedia XMS to global carrier and enterprise opportunities,” stated Kevin Cook, Dialogic CEO. “The appeal of the Tropo platform to the developer and carrier communities, combined with Dialogic’s scalable, flexible multimedia processing and the excitement around WebRTC, will be an explosive combination for ecosystem growth and profitability.”

The two companies are both recipients of WebRTC Conference & Expo awards. Tropo was recognized for the best “Wow Factor” at the Atlanta 2013 event, and Dialogic received the “Ready Now” award as well as the Audience Choice award for the first day of demos. You can also see the companies in action next week at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.
