WebRTC World Week in Review

This week in the WebRTC space, we dove into companies’ product demonstrations, highlighted the potential of a WebRTC hackathon and explored how WebRTC and video can disrupt education and the contact center.

A WebRTC hackathon could set out to achieve a number of goals. It could explore the opportunities in gaming, with the data channel, using CRM APIs, to discover different end points, with global connections or maybe even coming up with the highest number of implementations. Who knows? Maybe you’ll see a WebRTC hackathon coming soon.

One of the biggest areas WebRTC is said to have an impact on is the customer experience and therefore, the contact center, because it adds another means of communication, and brings the online experience closer to the real-life version. Questionmine is a company that understands the power of video and offers a WebRTC add-on with features such as video branching or video IVR.

Another industry set to benefit from WebRTC is education, especially with distance learning scenarios. Indiana University is partnering with Pexip, a provider of professional video collaboration and conferencing, to deliver expanded video conference services for each of its eight campuses. The goal is to enable the most scalable infrastructure in higher education while offering the next generation of technology for collaboration using video, voice and Audio/Visual (AV) technologies.

CounterPath’s new software development kit (SDK) takes aim at WebRTC with the company’s claim that its updated software integrates faster and better than other technologies. Like WebRTC, CounterPath’s softphone client suite enables users to make Voice over IP (VoIP) audio and video calls, send instant messages and manage their presence on both desktop and mobile softphone applications. The SDK was designed to reduce time to market for in-house mobile app programming.

IOCOM, a provider of video conferencing software, is offering integration with its Visimeet video conferencing software into third-party applications. Visimeet can be integrated with solutions from application providers, service providers and communications platforms, and can be used through WebRTC and various operating systems.

We took a look at a lot of company WebRTC products and solutions this week. You can check them out and watch videos of their demonstrations:

As WebRTC develops, we are getting closer to seeing more use cases, customer success stories and sophistication with the technology. Be sure to check out the demos above, and stay tuned each week to WebRTC World for the latest news and resources in the industry.
